Project 4: Mechanisms of Pannexin Channel Activation in Physiology and Permeation

hPx1 FL vs C-truncated IV

hPx1 FL vs C-truncated IV

Pannexin 1 forms an oligomeric membrane ion channel that mediates nucleotide release for the intercellular purinergic signaling that is important in inflammation, atherogenesis and regulation of blood pressure. This Project seeks to provide fundamental information on the functional mechanisms and corresponding structural features that control Panx1 channel physiology. We expect this work will be relevant for therapeutic efforts that seek to modulate Panx1 channel activity.
